Meet Kylie's Horses

Ivan Carlos ("Ivan")

2013 KWPN gelding

Ampere x Wiecarla (Jazz)

Ivan is a refined and elegant, pure black KWPN gelding with a light, springy movement that feels as though you're floating in the air when riding him. He is incredibly light in the mouth and dislikes any heavy pressure, exhibiting a naturally high self-carriage. Riding Ivan requires finesse and subtle seat and leg cues. Despite his hot breeding, Ivan is a total gentleman - gentle, genuine and affectionate.  As his former owner once said, "You could put an 8-year-old on him."

Kylie acknowledges that preparing both Ivan and herself for their first CDI in Australia will take time, but that’s part of the excitement. Ivan is quite a different horse from Kylie's first heart horse, Oscar, who Kylie recently semi-retired to begin working with her daughter toward CDI-J competitions (more about that below).

Ivan has an impressive background, having competed at the advanced level in the UK for several years with young rider Martha Joblin Purser. Ivan spent the 2022 competition season representing Ireland with Martha on the European circuit while she worked at the renowned Stal Brouwer Dressage Barn. That year, he had several impressive junior team and individual top 5 finishes, with successes both in regular tests and freestyle appearances.  Ivan began his career as a licensed breeding stallion for the AES stud book and competed up to medium level by 2018, after which Amy Woodhead took him on and competed him at Advanced Medium that same year before Martha purchased him.

Bellaire Cannavaro ("Oscar")

2004 Hanovarian gelding

Contendro I x Fiorella

Oscar is a traditional, heavy-set Warmblood with impressive movement that demands attention. He has a bold, solid build, and his distinctive white markings make him stand out. The perfect schoolmaster, Oscar's kindness and work ethic led to an impressive career, training to Grand Prix and competing Intermediate B before sustaining an injury.

As a young horse, Oscar had success in both dressage and showjumping, winning champion and horse of the year awards in 2008 and 2009. Subsequent dressage career highlights included:

  • 2010 Victorian State Medium Champion and Hanoverian Medium Horse of the Year

  • 2011 Competing Advanced and working at PSG level, selected for National Future Squad for Dressage

  • 2013 Equestrian Australia Dressage Futures Squad; Victorian Advanced Champion

  • 2022 FEI Para Dressage Grade IV World Ranking #21

  • 2022 Australian Para Dressage Grade IV Champion, Victorian Dressage Festival Grade IV Champion, and Sydney CDI Grade IV Champion

  • 2022 Australian Institute of Sport and Victorian Institute of Sport Equestrian Squad Member

Since entering semi-retirement following his time competing para dressage with Kylie, this talented schoolmaster has been keeping fit with Kylie's daughter, who Kylie says is having "the time of her life" riding him and making plans to compete him in junior CDIs.
